The Benefits of School Trips
School trips provide far more than a day away from the classroom. At Oaker Wood, pupils have the opportunity to challenge themselves, build confidence, develop teamwork skills and create lasting memories through exciting outdoor adventures and educational experiences.
Building Confidence and Independence
Taking part in new and exciting activities encourages children to step outside their comfort zones and discover what they are capable of achieving. Whether they are tackling high ropes, taking part in team challenges, learning survival skills or navigating woodland trails, pupils gain confidence through personal achievement and shared success.
Developing Important Life Skills
Many of our help children develop skills that benefit them both in school and beyond. Communication, leadership, problem-solving, resilience and teamwork are all naturally encouraged through hands-on experiences that require pupils to work together, support each other and overcome challenges.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
Outdoor learning brings education to life. Activities can be linked to curriculum topics and provide opportunities for pupils to engage with learning in a practical and memorable way. For example, during Survival Day, children will take part in Wild Camp and Woodland Navigation. Children will explore woodland habitats and wildlife and understand the natural environment. Activities can be specific to the curriculum learning objectives.
Encouraging Teamwork and Social Development
School trips provide valuable opportunities for children to build friendships, strengthen relationships and develop important teamwork skills. Through shared challenges and activities, pupils learn to communicate effectively, support one another and build trust, cooperation and respect. At Oaker Wood, many schools also bring smaller groups of pupils as part of their PE and Sport Premium funding programmes. These focused visits are designed to boost confidence, improve teamwork, develop resilience and provide a rewarding experience that helps children grow both personally and socially. The skills developed during these sessions often transfer back into the classroom, supporting learning, behaviour and overall wellbeing.
Supporting Health and Wellbeing
Spending time outdoors has significant benefits for children’s physical and mental wellbeing. Away from screens and classroom routines, pupils can be active, explore nature and enjoy a sense of freedom and adventure. Outdoor experiences often help reduce stress, improve mood and increase engagement and motivation.
Creating Memorable Experiences
Some of the most memorable school experiences happen outside the classroom. Whether visiting for a day trip or a residential stay, pupils leave Oaker Wood with a sense of achievement, increased confidence and memories that last long after the visit has ended.
